Police Crackdown on Anti-Social Driving in Greenhithe and Bluewater

Kent officers are gearing up for a no-nonsense weekend targeting anti-social drivers in Greenhithe and Bluewater. From Friday, June 10 to Sunday, June 12, squads will hit the streets to clamp down on reckless vehicle behaviour.

A tough Section 34 dispersal order will be rolled out to stop large groups gathering and causing chaos. The move aims to nip anti-social antics in the bud and protect local communities.

“We constantly work hard to tackle anti-social behaviour, often caused by a minority but affecting entire communities,” said Insp Trevor Jenner, Community Safety Unit Inspector for north Kent. “Our weekend action will ensure no disruption to residents, workers, or visitors.”

“While we want people to enjoy their weekends, anti-social driving and noisy vehicles won’t be tolerated. We’ll take strong action, including seizing vehicles if necessary.”

Meet Kent Police’s Veteran Champion: PCSO Adrian Butterworth

Beyond the crackdown, PCSO Adrian Butterworth is making a real difference for local veterans. A former Royal Artillery soldier, Adrian now champions armed forces personnel within Kent Police. He supports veterans dealing with mental health, housing, and job struggles.

Adrian regularly attends coffee mornings organised by Age Concern in Margate, warning elderly veterans about scams, and takes part in key events like Armed Forces Day and Remembrance Sunday.

From War Memorial Clean-Ups to Personal Support

Last year, Adrian led a volunteer effort to spruce up Margate’s War Memorial ahead of Armistice Day. His ability to connect personally with veterans is one of his biggest strengths.

“I was stunned to receive my award – it was a complete surprise,” said PCSO Butterworth. “When I get calls about anyone who’s served in the forces, I reach out. Whether victim or perpetrator, young or old, I’ll sit down with them over a cup of tea and listen.

“If they’re struggling with PTSD, mental health, or adjusting to civilian life, I do what I can to help. A problem shared is a problem halved.”

Inspector Ian Swallow of Thanet Community Safety Unit praised Adrian’s work:

“Adrian’s military background lets him genuinely connect with veterans. Sometimes all they need is someone who understands. He supports crime reporting and links veterans with partner agencies for extra help.”

Honoured at Civilian-Military Conference

Adrian accepted his award at the Kent and Medway Civilian Military Partnership Conference in Folkestone on June 7. The honour was presented by Lady Colgrain, Her Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant of Kent.
