Bag Snatches Hit Herne Bay Shops – Police Issue Warning

Three shoppers in Herne Bay had their purses stolen last weekend, Kent Police revealed. All victims left shops briefly, only to find their bags unzipped and wallets missing.

Opportunist Thieves Target Unattended Bags

While bag thefts aren’t common in the town, Inspector Thomas Mepstead warned locals to be vigilant. “Our officers are keeping an eye out, but shoppers must stay cautious to avoid becoming targets,” he said.

He added: “Never leave handbags on prams, shopping trolleys, wheelchairs, or mobility scooters unattended. Always keep bags zipped and in sight.”

Simple Steps to Stop Thieves in Their Tracks

  • Keep your handbag close and zipped at all times.
  • Avoid carrying large amounts of cash.
  • Use a purse chain if you have one – it can put off pickpockets.
