Woman Killed in Charlton Van Crash
Police rushed to Atlas Gardens, Charlton, at 10:33pm on Tuesday, 18 April after reports a 44-year-old woman was struck by a van. Despite frantic attempts by paramedics and officers, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The victim is believed to be Isabelle Stewart, a local Charlton resident. Her family have been informed and are being supported by specialist family liaison officers during this tragic time.
Multiple Arrests Made Over Fatal Crash
On Wednesday, police arrested a 23-year-old man on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. The following day, four more men—two aged 23, one 28, and one 31—were also taken in on similar charges and suspicion of violent disorder.
All five men have been released on bail while investigations continue.
Investigation Ongoing as Community Urged to Help
Detective Chief Inspector Brian Howie said: “Firstly, my thoughts are with Isabelle’s family and friends. We are doing all we can to establish what happened to their loved one.”
“We have made progress but still need anyone who saw a white van or truck driving erratically in Charlton between 10pm and 10:45pm on Tuesday to come forward.”
“We understand this incident has caused concern, but there is no wider risk to the community. Local officers will stay in the area and anyone worried is encouraged to talk to them.”
