Hero Police Dog Sniffs Out Suspected Car Thief After Wild Chase
A hero police dog helped nab a suspected car thief who rammed a police car in Northamptonshire before dashing off on foot. The dramatic arrest unfolded last night as officers from Northants Police pursued a cloned stolen vehicle, taken from another county.
Suspect Rams Police Car and Makes a Run for It
As officers closed in, the driver deliberately rammed a police vehicle, then abandoned the car and fled on foot. But the suspect’s escape plan hit a snag thanks to Police Dog (PD) Pyper and a drone operator, who were quickly deployed to track the fugitive.
PD Pyper Tracks Suspect to Nearby Garden
Using powerful scent-tracking skills, Pyper led officers straight to a nearby garden where the suspect was hiding. Backed by the Northants Road Policing Team (RPT), officers swiftly arrested the suspect, who now remains in custody.
“Another outstanding job by our four-legged crimefighter! The suspect thought he could escape, but Pyper had other plans. Thanks to our drone operator and dedicated officers, we ensured they didn’t get away,” praised a spokesperson from Northamptonshire Police Dogs Section.
Ongoing Investigations and Community Praise
Police are continuing investigations and haven’t ruled out charges including dangerous driving, vehicle theft, and assaulting a police officer. Residents have taken to social media to celebrate PD Pyper and the officers involved.
