Everyday Heroes Honoured at Kent Police Awards
Bravery was the name of the game at the Chief Constable’s Awards Ceremony on Tuesday, November 12. Held at Kent Police College, the event recognised lifesaving heroes from the police force and public alike.
Hosted by Chief Constable Tim Smith alongside Police & Crime Commissioner Matthew Scott and Kent High Sheriff Dr Gillian Fargher, the ceremony celebrated those who went the extra mile to save lives across Kent.
Fast-Fingered PC and Police Dog Save Man in Distress
PC Philip Jones and his police dog Bear sprang into action within minutes after a call from Denton last February. In just seven minutes, Bear found a vulnerable man deep in the woods. Thanks to their swift teamwork, PC Jones was able to give crucial life-saving aid.
Ten-Year-Old Hero Calls 999 to Save Mum
Only 10 years old, Michelle Arinze showed nerves of steel when she discovered her mum unconscious at their Gravesend home in May. Calmly calling 999, Michelle followed first aid instructions and performed life support for 10 minutes until help arrived.
Cool-Headed PC Talks Woman Off Dangerous Ledge
In Gillingham, PC Tom Vinall was recognised for his ice-cool approach in May. Responding to reports of a woman perilously perched on a derelict building ledge, he patiently built trust and safely guided her to solid ground.
Risky Property Entries to Rescue Unconscious Men
- PC William Simmons and PC Katie Lacey took bold action in Folkestone last October, breaking into a property to find an unconscious man. Their CPR efforts brought him back.
- Acting Sergeant Adam Rafter and colleague tackled a critical medical emergency in Gravesend in March. They stemmed severe bleeding and performed CPR until the man revived.
Public-Teamwork Shines in Harrowing Incidents
- Ellie Waller, a bystander in Whitstable last December, courageously administered first aid to a stabbed man until emergency crews arrived.
- Off-duty PC Honey Hall saved a man in Whitstable this January, performing CPR and controlling the crowd until paramedics took charge.
