Massive House Blaze Erupts in Saltwood Near Hythe
A huge house fire broke out on Sandling Road, Saltwood, near Hythe on Sunday afternoon, January 14, 2024. Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) raced to the scene with five fire engines and 25 firefighters battling the aggressive flames.
Emergency Crews Spring Into Action
Alongside firefighters, emergency teams including electrical and gas safety engineers, Kent Police, and the KFRS Volunteer Response Team quickly arrived after reports of the house engulfed in smoke. The detached property was severely affected, prompting a major response to contain the blaze.
Firefighters Fight Flames with High-Tech Gear
Wearing breathing apparatus to shield from thick smoke, crews deployed a main jet and two high-pressure hose reel jets to douse the fire. They also used a positive-pressure ventilation fan to clear smoke and toxic fumes from the property. A height vehicle platform was brought in to reach the roof, remove tiles, and ensure no hidden flames remained.
No Injuries as Fire Under Investigation
Thankfully, no injuries were reported. Early investigations suggest the fire was accidental, though officials continue to probe the cause. The swift, coordinated efforts of Kent Fire and Rescue and partner agencies stopped the fire from spreading to nearby homes.
Authorities urge residents to stay vigilant and prioritise fire safety in their homes to prevent similar disasters.
