Body Found in Loughton Woodland Sparks Suspicious Death Probe
Detectives have made swift headway after a man’s body was discovered in woodland near Oakwood Hill Industrial Estate, Loughton, on Saturday morning (15 October) at around 11.55am.
Police are treating the death as suspicious and are urgently working to uncover what led to the man’s tragic demise.
Investigation Transferred to Met Police
Initially handled by the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate, the inquiry has now been handed over to the Metropolitan Police, who have jurisdiction over the area where the man is believed to have died.
“The Met Police will now take the lead on this investigation but we will continue to support them,” said Detective Superintendent Rob Kirby.
“Road closures remain in place while enquiries continue.”
Road Closures and Access Restrictions
Part of Oakwood Hill remains closed, blocking access to the industrial estate via Chigwell Lane. However, access is still possible through Roding Road.
“We don’t expect significant disruption over the weekend, but when the industrial estate re-opens on Monday, delays are possible,” Kirby warned.
“Diversions are in place and we thank the public for their patience during our investigation.”
Police Call for Witnesses and Footage
Detective Superintendent Kirby urged anyone who saw suspicious activity or vehicles late Friday night or early Saturday to come forward.
“A team of specialist detectives is working round the clock. Anyone with CCTV, dash cam, or other footage in the area is asked to contact us,” he said.
