Police Shoot Dead Chris Kaba After Armed Stop in Streatham Hill
Chris Kaba, 24, from Wembley, was shot dead by armed officers during a police stop in Kirkstall Gardens, Streatham Hill, on Monday night.
IOPC Launches Full Investigation
The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) is leading the probe into the fatal shooting. Investigators met with Mr Kaba’s family today to outline their role and promise ongoing updates.
IOPC Regional Director Sal Naseem vowed a “thorough and comprehensive investigation” into what happened just after 10pm on 5 September. “We understand the public have questions and we’re piecing together the facts,” he said, warning it will take time to uncover the full story.
Armed Police Tried to Stop Vehicle Linked to Firearms Incident
Police in an armed response unit tried to stop Mr Kaba’s car after automatic number plate recognition flagged it as connected to a recent firearms case. As officers attempted to contain the vehicle, a single shot was fired by a police officer.
Despite officers administering CPR at the scene and emergency services rushing Mr Kaba to hospital, he died later that night.
No Gun Found at Scene or Vehicle
After a thorough area search, no non-police firearms were recovered. Mr Kaba’s vehicle and involved police cars have been taken to a secure location for detailed forensic analysis.
Public Appeal for Witnesses
IOPC is appealing for anyone with information about the incident to come forward. So far, some door-to-door inquiries have been made, but more witnesses may hold crucial details.
