Iranian Embassy Attack Plot Foiled in London
Four Iranian men were arrested in a dramatic counter-terror operation that stopped a terror attack on the Israeli Embassy in Kensington just hours before it could happen. Police warned the plot posed an “immediate risk to life.” Armed officers raided properties in Rochdale, Swindon, London, Manchester, and Stockport on Saturday.
Foiled Terror Plot Targeted Israeli Embassy
Security Minister Dan Jarvis called the bust “some of the largest counter-state threats and counter-terrorism actions we have seen in recent times.” Though officials initially withheld details, it’s now confirmed the heavily fortified Israeli Embassy near Kensington Palace was the intended target.
Home Secretary Yvette Cooper ordered urgent security reviews at embassies across London, warning the event highlights the complexity of UK’s national security challenges.
High-Risk Raids Across the UK
Counter Terrorism Specialist Firearms Officers and undercover units carried out high-risk raids, including a tense arrest inside a Swindon café. In total, seven Iranian nationals were detained that day—four for the embassy plot and three suspected of espionage under the National Security Act.
MI5 boss Sir Ken McCallum recently warned Iran is plotting attacks across Europe at an “unprecedented pace and scale.” There are growing fears Iranian-backed agents could use criminal proxies to target UK citizens.
Security Chiefs Urge Vigilance Amid Threats
Commander Dominic Murphy, head of the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command, said:
“This is a fast-moving investigation. Speculation could have a serious impact.”
Iran’s Foreign Ministry has demanded fair treatment for the arrested men, denying any wrongdoing. Meanwhile, UK intelligence believes Iran has been behind at least 20 plots targeting journalists, dissidents, and Israeli interests on British soil since 2022.
