Gravestones Vandalised at Jewish Cemetery in Rochester
Kent Police are hunting for witnesses after four gravestones were smashed at a Jewish cemetery in Rochester.
The damage happened at the Chatham Memorial Synagogue grounds on High Street. Officers were alerted around 5.30pm on Tuesday 8 October 2019, but the destruction likely took place between 27 September and 4 October.
Police Step Up Patrols as Investigation Continues
Chief Inspector Ian Dyball, Kent Police’s District Commander for Medway, said: “This type of incident is thankfully very rare but I appreciate the impact it has had on the local community.”
He added: “Local patrols will continue to monitor the area. If anyone has any concerns, please speak to officers or PCSOs when you see them.”
Officers have reviewed CCTV footage and are working closely with cemetery managers to offer crime prevention advice.
