A police patrol car was left battered and battered after a van driver repeatedly rammed it in Coventry in the early hours of New Year’s Day.
Chaos on Hummingbird Avenue
Officers were called to Hummingbird Avenue at around 1.30am following reports of a fight. Witnesses said a motorist was deliberately driving at people, and there were even claims someone was armed with a knife.
Brutal Attack on Officers
When response crews arrived, before they could even step out of their car, a man driving a Transit van slammed into their vehicle. Police say the van rammed the patrol car up to seven times, setting off the airbags and causing extensive damage.
Not done there, the driver then reversed and smashed into a second police car.
Driver Caught and Officers Injured
The van driver tried to flee but was quickly cornered and arrested. He was taken to hospital amid suspicion he was under the influence, before being brought in for questioning.
Three officers, including two from the damaged patrol car, suffered neck and back injuries but escaped serious harm. Police continue to investigate the disorder.
