Two Women Murdered in Crawley Down – Man Arrested but Critical
Detectives are probing the brutal murder of two women, aged 32 and 76, found dead outside a house in Crawley Down on Sunday morning (22 December). A 37-year-old man, discovered seriously injured inside the property on Hazel Way, is under arrest for murder.
Suspect Remains in Critical Condition
The man is currently in a very unstable condition at Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton. Detective Chief Inspector Alex Geldart from the Surrey and Sussex major crime team is heading the investigation.
Tragic Scene Despite Emergency Efforts
“This is a tragic incident which has led to the death of two local women, one of whom was known to the suspect,” DCI Geldart said. “Members of the public, police, and paramedics did all they could to help the victims, but sadly both women died at the scene.
“I extend my heartfelt sympathies to their families, who are being supported by specialist officers. We ask for respect and privacy during this distressing time.”
Investigation Ongoing – No Knife Used
Police confirmed this was not a knife attack. A cordon remains in place on Hazel Way as forensic teams comb the area for evidence. Officers urge the public not to speculate, as enquiries continue.

Chief Superintendent Jerry Westerman said: “This isolated yet shocking incident has shaken many in the community. We’re grateful for local support as officers carry out their enquiries.”
