A man has tragically died after a serious flat fire tore through a first-floor maisonette in Oval, south London, in the early hours.
Fire Breaks Out Just After Midnight
The inferno ignited shortly after midnight on Dorset Road inside an 11-storey residential block. Flames engulfed the first-floor flat, sparking a major emergency response.
Harrowing Rescue Efforts Fail to Save Man
- Five fire engines and around 30 firefighters from Lambeth, Clapham, Peckham, and Battersea rushed to the scene.
- Firefighters found a man inside the flat but, despite their desperate efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
- The blaze was brought under control by 12:27am.
Cause Under Scrutiny as Police Launch Probe
Part of the maisonette sustained fire damage. The London Fire Brigade confirmed the cause of the blaze is under joint investigation with the Metropolitan Police Service.
