Knife-Wielding Thug Fails Tesco Robbery in Portsmouth

Police have launched a hunt for a brazen crook who tried to rob a Tesco in Portsmouth – but walked away empty-handed.

At around 2.15pm on Saturday, 19 August, a man stormed into the Tesco on Crasswell Street. He threatened a staff member with a knife and demanded cash from the till.

Despite his threats, the man failed to open the till himself and fled without any loot.

Police Appeal: Do You Recognise This Man?

Officers have released a CCTV image as they hunt the suspect. He is described as:

  • White male
  • 5ft 8ins tall
  • Average build
  • Wearing pale tights over his head and face
  • Dark jacket and trousers
  • Gloves

Detective Constable Carla-Marie Moore urged witnesses to come forward: “This happened on a busy Saturday afternoon at a popular supermarket, so there may have been people who saw what happened. Did you see this man in the store, or know who he is?”
