Massive Illegal Tobacco Bust in Grimsby
Police and trading standards officers have dealt a major blow to illegal tobacco trafficking in Grimsby. A Freeman Street shop was raided, and a whopping 93,120 illicit cigarettes were seized.
More Than Just Cigarettes: Huge Haul Uncovered
The crackdown didn’t stop at smokes. Officials also confiscated 313 pouches of illegal tobacco and 348 black-market vapes. The total retail value of the haul? A staggering £80,814. On the street, it’s worth just over £25,000. The seized vapes alone could rake in £3,500 on the underground market.
Operation CeCe: Cracking Down on Tobacco Crime
No arrests have been made yet, but police and trading standards are hot on the heels of those responsible. Councillor Ron Shepherd, Portfolio Holder for Safer and Stronger Communities, said:
“While it is great to see that we are taking these products off the streets, we understand there is more work to do.”
“Operation CeCe and the partnership with Humberside Police has allowed us to take great steps forward in ensuring these products are less readily available, but that doesn’t mean we stop. We know there are more sellers out there, and our teams will continue inspections and act on information to keep North East Lincolnshire safe.”
Ongoing Enquiries Signal More Raids Ahead
Authorities aren’t letting up. As investigations continue, more busts could be on the horizon. The fight against illegal tobacco crime in the region is far from over.
