Tragic Death of Lance Corporal Brodie Gillon Confirmed by Ministry of Defence
The Ministry of Defence has confirmed the heartbreaking loss of Lance Corporal Brodie Gillon, who died while serving on duty in the Middle East on March 11, 2020.
Rising Star of the Scottish and North Irish Yeomanry
LCpl Gillon, just 26, was a committed Army Reservist with the Scottish and North Irish Yeomanry. She joined the regiment in 2015 as a Combat Medical Technician (CMT) and quickly sharpened her skills, qualifying as a Class 1 CMT in 2018.
Driven and ambitious, she volunteered for frontline roles, including service with the Royal Guard at Ballater in 2019 and then deployment with the Irish Guards Battle Group in 2020. Tragically, she was killed during an attack at Camp Taji while serving with the Irish Guards.
A Talented Medic and Dedicated Professional
Known for her energy and compassion, LCpl Gillon balanced her military commitments with her work as a self-employed sports physiotherapist. Her determination and professionalism earned her tremendous respect among her peers.
Lieutenant Colonel Leek, Commanding Officer of the Scottish and North Irish Yeomanry, said: “LCpl Brodie Gillon was a hugely popular character who was determined to deploy, help others, and develop herself. She had already achieved so much in her short time with us, and her loss is deeply felt. My deepest condolences go to her family and loved ones.”
Major Craig Powers, Squadron Leader of A Squadron added: “LCpl Gillon was an utterly professional soldier, an outstanding medic, and a loyal friend. She was highly respected and will be missed by all who knew her. Our thoughts are with her family.”
Tributes from High Command
Major General Celia OBE expressed her sorrow, stating:
“It is with a heavy heart that I report the loss of LCpl Brodie Gillon. She fulfilled a long-held ambition to serve on an operational deployment in Iraq, where she was performing vital medical duties during a rocket attack. She combined commitment and a fun-loving spirit, making the ultimate sacrifice. Our deepest condolences go to her family.”
Defence Secretary Ben Wallace also paid tribute:
“LCpl Gillon was held in the highest regard and was a shining example of our Armed Forces’ spirit. She inspired those around her and always put others first. My thoughts are with her loved ones during this difficult time, and we will ensure they receive every support.”
