Ex-Coventry City Star’s Baby Battles Rare Leukaemia
Ashley Cain, former Coventry City player, and his partner Safiyya Vorajee have launched a heartfelt fundraising drive for their baby daughter, Azaylia Diamond Cain.
“We are on our knees asking for help,” they pleaded after Azaylia, just eight weeks old at diagnosis, was hit by acute myeloid leukaemia.
Race to Save Azaylia with Groundbreaking Treatment
Despite three rounds of chemo and a bone marrow transplant, Azaylia “went into full relapse,” the devastated couple revealed.
The only hope? A costly trip to Singapore for revolutionary CAR-T therapy and a haplo transplant. This cutting-edge treatment, already helping other young patients like Oscar Saxelby-Lee and Zac Oliver, reprogrammes immune cells to attack cancer directly.
Fundraiser Hits £1.48 Million in Just Two Days
The family’s fundraising appeal has gone viral, smashing its £1 million target in no time and reaching £1,485,800 by Monday lunchtime.
“We are so overwhelmed by the support we have received and cannot begin to express our deep gratitude,” the couple posted.
Before treatment starts, Azaylia will undergo a bone marrow test and lumbar puncture, with samples sent to Singapore.
Extra Funds to Help Other Families in Need
Any money raised beyond the £1m goal — including from upcoming charity events like a bike ride — will be donated to support other children battling the disease.
“This is not only to help my daughter get the treatment she needs, but to support families who might not have the network we have,” Safiyya explained.
