A man in his 40s has been arrested in West Sussex following a weekend cyber attack that crippled major airports, including Heathrow. The National Crime Agency (NCA) swooped on Tuesday, suspecting breaches of the Computer Misuse Act. The suspect is now out on conditional bail.
Cyber Attack Brings Heathrow and Europe to a Standstill
The digital assault targeted Collins Aerospace, the company behind check-in and boarding systems for airlines worldwide. The hack caused widespread travel chaos, not just at Heathrow but also at airports in Brussels and Berlin. Frustrated passengers faced delays and cancellations as the airport systems ground to a halt.
NCA Calls Arrest a ‘Positive Step’ in Ongoing Cyber War
Deputy Director Ian Foster, head of the NCA’s National Cyber Crime Unit, welcomed the arrest but warned the investigation is far from over. He said: “Cybercrime is a persistent global threat that continues to cause significant disruption to the UK. Alongside our partners here and overseas, the NCA is committed to reducing that threat in order to protect the British public.”
International Manhunt Underway
The NCA confirmed the probe is ongoing and they are working closely with global agencies to track down all those responsible for the cyber attack that caused havoc across Europe.
