Tragic Murder of Elderly Man in West London Stuns Community

At 4.06pm on Tuesday, 87-year-old Thomas O’Halloran was attacked on Cayton Road, Greenford, near the A40 in west London. His attacker fled the scene. No arrests have been made yet in the capital’s sixth homicide in just four days.

Police Keep All Motives on the Table

Scotland Yard is keeping an open mind about the motive, not ruling out robbery. They have urged anyone who witnessed the attack to come forward. Detective Chief Inspector Jim Eastwood said:

“I’m asking anyone with dashcam or cycle helmet footage who was near Western Avenue A40 Eastbound, Cayton Road or Welland Gardens between 1.15pm and 4.15pm to contact us. It’s critical we hear from anyone who saw the victim or anyone acting suspiciously.”

Community Mourns a Kind-Hearted Musician

Locals remember Mr O’Halloran as a beloved musician who played his accordion to raise funds for Ukrainian refugees. Shop owner Hitesh Patel, 62, said:

“He always had an Ukraine flag on his basket with ‘Aid for Ukraine’ written on it. He was a wonderful, kind man.”

Witness Frasley Coutinho, who lives opposite the scene, recalled seeing a group gathered around the victim shortly before the attack.

Investigation Underway as Community Demands Answers

Dozens of officers and forensic experts remained at the cordoned-off scene on Wednesday, which is centred around the intersection of Cayton Road and Runnymede Gardens.

Chief Superintendent Sean Wilson, Ealing’s policing lead, said:

“This is an awful incident that will understandably cause considerable alarm. We are assisting our Specialist Crime colleagues to find out what happened and bring the perpetrator to justice. The public’s support is essential. Police and community must work together to keep our streets safe.”

Anyone with information should call police on 101, referencing CAD 4691/16 Aug.
