Tragedy struck the Springwell Estate on Monday evening when a teenager was found with stab wounds. Police discovered the boy just after 8pm on Aycliffe Crescent, suffering injuries “consistent with having been caused by a bladed article.”
Despite efforts to save him, the 14-year-old, named Tomasz, died in hospital in the early hours of Tuesday. Authorities have launched a murder investigation.

Police Pay Tribute to Victim
“Tomasz had his whole life ahead of him, and this tragic incident has cut that life short and left his family utterly devastated,” said Chief Superintendent Helena Barron.
“Their loss is unfathomable, and everyone at Northumbria Police is thinking of them as we continue to support them in any way we can.”
Community and Police Unite
Chief Superintendent Barron thanked locals for cooperating with the investigation. “The Springwell Estate community has been incredibly supportive, and we’re grateful to those who’ve come forward with information.”
She added: “While incidents like this are rare around here, we know their impact is huge. We’re committed to bringing those responsible to justice.”
Police Urge Caution Online
Officers will stay in the area for the foreseeable future. Barron warned against social media speculation or naming suspects, saying it could jeopardise the ongoing investigation.
