BMW Crash Sparks Drink-Drive Arrest in Old Town
Chaos hit Old Town around 10pm on Saturday, October 10, when a white BMW lost control on a mini roundabout. The car smashed metal railings at the busy junction of Devizes Road and Victoria Road before speeding off along Devizes Road.
Driver Bailed Out After Quick Arrest
Police tracked down the BMW shortly after at a nearby address. A man in his 20s was arrested on suspicion of drink driving and remains in custody at Gablecross police station.
Close Call for Pedestrians
PC Ian Woodward said: “This collision happened at the same time the pubs were kicking out so the area would have been busy with people finishing their night and making their way home. It is extremely fortunate that no pedestrians were struck by the vehicle – it is likely that the presence of metal railings prevented the vehicle from carrying on to the footpath and causing injury and further damage.”
Witnesses Urged to Come Forward
Police are hunting witnesses and appealing for any mobile phone, dash cam, or CCTV footage. If you saw anything, call 101 and quote crime reference number 54200102203.
