An investigation is underway after vile antisemitic messages were scratched into the bunkers at Hendon Golf Club on Friday, October 11. The discovery was made by a staff member who immediately alerted the police. The Metropolitan Police Service’s North West Command Unit, covering Barnet, has taken charge of the probe.

Police Condemn Hate as Yom Kippur Observed

Detective Chief Inspector Daniel Branch expressed sympathy for the Jewish community, highlighting the timing of the attack during the sacred Yom Kippur holiday. “We are aware of the shock and distress that this incident has caused, especially coming at a time when the Jewish community is celebrating Yom Kippur,” he said.

Heightened Police Presence and Community Support

The police are treating the incident as a racially aggravated hate crime. Officers from the North West Community Safety Unit are leading the hunt to catch the culprits. Following the discovery, patrols at the golf club and nearby areas have been stepped up.

Local community leaders have been briefed to ensure they stay informed and supported. DCI Branch added, “We have attended the golf course to back the club and engaged with community heads about the investigation’s progress.”
