Brutal Thief Leaves 87-Year-Old Woman with Broken Arm in Streatham Attack
Vicious Robbery on Elderly Woman
Police are hunting a brutal thug who attacked an 87-year-old woman in Streatham, leaving her with a broken arm. The shocking robbery took place on Pendennis Road at around 11:30am on Saturday, 16 March.
The victim had been shopping on Streatham High Road, buying flowers and prosecco for a family visit. Walking home with a friend, the pair parted ways when the friend reached her house. The victim, carrying her black handbag, was then violently assaulted from behind.
‘Mighty Blow’ Knocks Victim to the Ground
The woman reported feeling a “mighty blow” that knocked her off her feet. As she lay on the floor, she caught a glimpse of the slim attacker in black trousers and a black hoodie sprinting back towards Streatham High Road.
She screamed for help after realising her handbag was stolen and struggled to move due to the pain in her right arm. A passerby rushed to assist her before police and paramedics arrived. Hospital treatment revealed a broken arm and needed stitches on her right hand.
Stolen Cards Used in Streatham Shops – Police Release CCTV
Following the attack, the thief used the victim’s stolen bank cards at local shops. Police have now released CCTV footage of the suspect making these transactions as they seek to track him down.
The victim’s handbag was later recovered nearby, but the perpetrator remains at large.
Detective Pleads for Public Help
“This was a horrible and cynical attack on a vulnerable and defenceless woman,” said Detective Constable Caroline Benjamin. “She is now scared to walk alone and suffers sleepless nights due to pain. She’s someone who always looks out for others but now relies on help herself.”
“No one should ever feel frightened in their own community. We need to catch this despicable thug quickly. If you recognise the man in the CCTV or have any information, contact police immediately.”
