Sussex Police Launch Urgent Hunt After Shocking Brighton Rape

Sussex Police are desperately seeking two men after a 19-year-old man was raped in Brighton’s Old Steine in the early hours of Saturday, December 21. The horrific attack happened around 3:30 a.m. near Harry Ramsden’s restaurant.

Victim Attacked Near Harry Ramsden’s

The victim told cops he was approached by two strangers who led him to Steine Lane, a dark alley connecting East Street and Old Steine. It was here the brutal assault took place before the victim managed to flag down a passer-by for help. Police have since released images of the two suspects and are urging anyone who recognises them to come forward.

“Steine Lane is a commonly used path, popular day and night as a quick cut-through,” said Detective Inspector Sean Booth, who’s leading the inquiry. “We know there were people nearby at the time and we need their help to catch these offenders. This is deeply concerning.”

Operation Attach: Police Crack Down

Officers have launched Operation Attach to step up their investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact Sussex Police online or ring 101, quoting the operation. Crimestoppers can also be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111.

“There is no place for sexual violence in Sussex,” Det Insp Booth stressed. “We are taking this extremely seriously and will do all we can to bring those responsible to justice.”

Support for Victim and Community

Sussex Police have assured the public that the victim is receiving specialist support and emphasised services are available for anyone affected by sexual violence. The force remains committed to keeping Brighton safe while hunting down the culprits.

If you were near Old Steine and Steine Lane on December 21 around 3:30 a.m., police want to hear from you—your tip could be vital.
