Teen Shot in Broad Daylight After Knife Fight Sparks Gunfire in Hackney

Police rushed to Gilpin Road at 1.30pm on Monday, 7 March after reports of a knife fight among a group of men and a gunshot fired. When officers and the London Ambulance Service (LAS) arrived, the suspects had vanished.

About ten minutes later, cops were tipped off about a 17-year-old boy with a gunshot injury on Belgrade Road, Hackney. The teen was rushed by ambulance to an east London hospital, where medics confirmed his injuries were non-life-threatening.
Witnesses Urged to Come Forward
Detective Inspector Matthew Webb, heading the investigation, revealed new details: “Our probe shows that at 1.30pm a motorbike carrying two males pulled into Gilpin Square. The bike stopped near four or five masked men, and one of the group fired a gun, shooting the victim on the motorbike.
“After he was shot, the victim fell off the bike but got back on his feet. The group then chased him briefly before fleeing into nearby streets.
This was a brutal shooting in broad daylight on a busy residential street in east London. We believe plenty of locals either saw the attack or its aftermath, and we need their help. If you have dashcam or doorbell footage—or any information—please get in touch immediately.

Three Arrested, Investigation Ongoing
Three males aged 17 and 18 were arrested on suspicion of violent disorder. They were taken to an east London police station and later released on bail, set to return in mid-April.
The Met’s Specialist Crime Command (Trident) is leading the investigation, supported by local Central East Command Unit officers.
