Coal Thieves Target Elderly Man’s Only Heating Supply in Catsfield
Two Bags Stolen Every Night
A brave PCSO on patrol in Rother Police’s patch visited an 85-year-old man in Catsfield, Battle, after the pensioner reported coal bags disappearing mysteriously from outside his home. The coal isn’t even visible from the road, making the theft sneaky and sinister.
The victim says about two bags vanish every night, leaving him short of fuel to keep warm.
Only Heating Source Running Out Fast
The elderly gentleman stocked up enough coal to last through winter. But with thieves nicking his supply, that stash is rapidly running out. This coal is his only way to heat his home as the cold months settle in.
Police Appeal for Info and Offer Support
A Sussex Police spokesperson slammed the heartless theft. “It is worrisome that someone is callous enough to do this,” they said.
“With the man’s permission, we have referred him to Adult Social Services as he was clearly in need of assistance.”
