Hammer-wielding thug tries to rob taxi driver in Southampton

Police are hunting a man who threatened a taxi driver with a hammer during a botched robbery in Southampton.

Silver Corsa pulls up in early hours attack

Between 3.45am and 4.45am on Saturday, October 22, a silver Vauxhall Corsa pulled up next to a taxi on Windermere Avenue.

The rear nearside passenger, armed with a claw hammer, threatened the 42-year-old driver and demanded cash. Luckily, the driver was not hurt and nothing was stolen, but he was left shaken by the ordeal.

Teen arrested, but hammer-wielding thug still at large

A 17-year-old boy has been arrested and released on bail until December 15. However, cops are still desperate to find the young man who threatened the driver with a dark-handled claw hammer.

The suspect is described as white, aged late teens to early twenties.

Police urge witnesses to come forward

Police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with information to help identify the hammer-wielding thug.
