Police Hunt Man After Sexual Assault Attempt in Portsmouth Alley

Police are urgently appealing for witnesses after a sexual assault attempt in Portsmouth on Sunday evening, November 20.

Victim Attacked While Walking Through Alley

At around 5.45pm, a 19-year-old woman was walking through the alley connecting Wellington Street and Aldwell Street towards Somers Road. Halfway down, a man approached her, touched her inappropriately over her clothes, and tried to pull her to the ground.

Thankfully, a second woman witnessed the attack and intervened, forcing the man to flee towards Guildhall Square. He may have headed into nearby Aldwell Street, Lower Forbury Road, River Street, or 1 Close.

Suspect Description and Appeal for Information

  • White male, aged 40s-50s
  • Larger build, overweight
  • 5ft 8in tall
  • Short grey hair, slightly balding with grey stubble
  • Wearing a grey hoody with the hood up

The victim was not injured and is receiving support. Police have launched enquiries but need the public’s help to find the suspect.
