Third Funeral Set for Victim of Derry Hill Crash This Thursday

The third funeral for the tragic Derry Hill road crash victims will take place this Thursday, 24 September. Matthew Parke’s cortege will leave his family home at 11.50am, journeying along the bypass, down Oxford Road, and through Calne town centre.

Police Urge Covid Rules at Funeral Procession

Authorities are urging locals to follow Government Covid-19 rules if they plan to pay respects as the cortege passes. The funeral service and celebration of Matthew’s life are private and invite-only.

Inspector James Brain of Chippenham Area Police said, “I thank Calne’s community for respecting the Covid restrictions and supporting the families of Corey, Jordan, Matthew, and Ryan. Please ensure your tributes are safe—keep social distancing and avoid groups larger than six.”

Family Thanks Community and Launches Fundraiser

Matthew’s family expressed deep gratitude for the outpouring of love and support during this difficult time. After the funeral, flowers will be placed at Calne pop-up park as a tribute.

The family is also fundraising to support Kingsbury Green Academy, formerly John Bentley School, where Matthew was a happy and high-achieving student.

“Matthew flourished there, earning excellent GCSEs and A-levels with guidance from his tutors and head teacher Mr Tudor,” the family said.

Donations can be made through Odette Funeral Directors or via Matthew’s GoFundMe page titled ‘Matthew Parke’s Memorial Fundraiser’.

Wiltshire Council Chief Praises Community’s Respect

Terence Herbert, Wiltshire Council Chief Executive, added, “The Covid restrictions complicate grieving, but Calne’s community has shown tremendous respect. We urge all to keep to social distancing so everyone can stay safe while paying their respects.”
