Wiltshire Police Crack Down on Nuisance Car Meets This Summer
This summer, Wiltshire Police are stepping up efforts to tackle disruptive car meets across Swindon and Wiltshire. While they acknowledge the public’s eagerness to get social after Covid restrictions lifted, cops warn these gatherings can cause serious noise and traffic chaos.
Sergeant Issues Warning to Car Enthusiasts
Sergeant Georgina Romani from Wiltshire Police said: “We’ve seen a surge in demand this summer and we don’t want to spoil fun for no reason. But some car meets have been highly anti-social and upsetting local communities.”
She added: “Car lovers have missed out on events for 18 months and want to meet up. However, recent meets in Swindon brought noise complaints, dangerous driving, and traffic nightmares. We won’t tolerate this behaviour and will take action across all of Wiltshire.”
Police Armed With New Powers
- Wiltshire Police can use Section 35 dispersal notices to break up illegal gatherings and arrest those who refuse to leave.
- They’re also considering injunctions to prevent unlicensed car meets altogether.
How to Report Problem Car Meets
If you spot or hear about an anti-social car meet causing issues, report it online or by calling 101. For emergencies or crimes in progress, dial 999 immediately. Police urge the public to use online reporting to help manage the high volume of calls this summer.
Don’t let rogue car meets ruin the summer — Wiltshire Police are watching and ready to act.
