Police Ready to Crack Down on Swindon and Wiltshire Car Meets This Summer
Warnings Over Noise and Disruption
Wiltshire Police have issued a stern warning to drivers planning car meets across Swindon and Wiltshire this summer. While everyone’s eager to socialise after Covid restrictions eased, officers say they won’t tolerate antisocial behaviour and excessive noise from large, unlicensed gatherings.
Sergeant’s Warning to Car Enthusiasts
Sergeant Georgina Romani said: “We understand fans haven’t been able to meet for 18 months and want to get back to their passion. But some recent events have caused huge disruption, upsetting locals with noise, traffic chaos, and dangerous driving.”
“We face a big rise in demand this summer, and while we don’t want to spoil anyone’s fun, we will take firm action against those causing problems.”
Police Powers and How to Report
- Police can issue Section 35 dispersal orders to clear crowds and arrest those who refuse.
- They may also pursue injunctions to stop illegal car meets before they happen.
- Local residents are urged to report suspicious or disruptive car meets online, or call 101.
- For emergencies or crimes in action, dial 999 immediately.
With summer in full swing, Wiltshire Police are keeping a close eye on car gatherings. Don’t risk fines or arrests – keep it safe and legal.
