Stalker Ex Caught Red-Handed in Peterborough
Joaquim Tavares, 49, has been locked up for terrifying his ex-girlfriend across Peterborough. After their three-year relationship ended, the Millfield man relentlessly stalked the woman, following her every move.
CCTV and ANPR cameras caught him loitering near her car and suspiciously tailing her multiple times.
Victim Films Ex Stalking Her Outside Café
On 5 November last year, the victim spotted Tavares’ car parked suspiciously opposite a café she regularly visited. Feeling uneasy, she quickly went back inside and asked a friend to keep watch as she headed to her car.
She even filmed his vehicle and told her manager she feared she was being followed.
Harassment Spirals: Horn Beeps and Shouting
Just two days later, Tavares returned, this time tailing her journey to work. He shouted from his car window, beeped his horn repeatedly, and flashed his headlights to intimidate her.
On 13 November, he confronted her as she walked to her car, winding down his window. Terrified, she ran back to the café and called 999.
Court Locks Up Tavares for Stalking and Weapons Offence
Police arrested Tavares nearby and found a knuckleduster tucked in his car door. He was also charged with driving without a licence or insurance.
Despite denying stalking and offering excuses like buying paracetamol or changing music, he was found guilty at a September trial of stalking causing serious distress.
He pleaded guilty earlier to possessing the knuckleduster and to the driving offences.
On Thursday 16 October, Cambridge Crown Court sentenced Tavares to one year in prison and handed down a restraining order to keep him away from his victim.
