Illegal Vets’ Drug Seized in Belfast After US Parcel Stop

A parcel addressed to County Armagh was stopped at a Belfast depot, revealing an unauthorised veterinary medicine inside.

Medistatin for Pigeons Nabbed by DAERA

Couriers at the Belfast facility identified the package containing 4 x 100g Medistatin, a medicine meant for pigeons and cagebirds. The product was seized by the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA) for breaching import rules.

Shipped from USA Without Proper Papers

The parcel arrived from the USA but lacked the necessary certification to allow its import into the UK. Medistatin is not authorised for use in Great Britain or Northern Ireland, making its import illegal.

Seizure Enforced Under Veterinary Medicines Law

Under Regulation 25 of the Veterinary Medicines Regulations 2013, which prohibits importing unauthorised veterinary medicines, DAERA confiscated the product to protect animal health.
