Man Arrested After Teen Girl Followed Near Portsmouth School

Police in Portsmouth have arrested a 41-year-old man after a 14-year-old girl was followed near her school. The incident unfolded on Kent Road just before 4pm on Wednesday, October 5.

Girl Targeted Walking Home From School

The 14-year-old was walking home from Portsmouth High School for Girls in Southsea when the man repeatedly tried to stop and talk to her. Alarmed passers-by spotted the suspicious behaviour and called police at 3.53pm. Officers quickly arrived and arrested the man, who is now in custody.

Second Incident Sparks Concern

This comes just two days after a similar report involving a 15-year-old girl from the same school. On Monday, October 3, the girl felt she was being followed while walking along a local road and informed her parents when she got home.

Police Boost Patrols to Keep Children Safe

Both cases are under active investigation. Police are working closely with the school to reassure students and parents. Extra patrols will be carried out during school finishing times to ensure pupils feel safe travelling to and from school.

“We urge parents and teenagers to stay alert but not alarmed. Please report any suspicious activity to 101 or 999,” police said.
