Balaclava bandits flee Sutton cannabis raid – police give chase!
Early Morning Drama on Dalestorth Street
At 2.50am today (22 December), police raced to Dalestorth Street, Sutton in Ashfield, after reports of masked suspects dashing from a house and jumping into a Vauxhall. Officers soon spotted the getaway car but the driver slammed the brakes on and fled, sparking a high-speed chase.
Suspect Arrested After Foot Chase
The vehicle was abandoned shortly after, and officers gave chase on foot. A 32-year-old man was caught and locked up. He’s now being quizzed over dangerous driving, failing to stop, and possession plus production of class B drugs.
Police are still hunting a second suspect who bolted from the same car.
Cannabis Farm Fire Blazed a Trail
Meanwhile, another police team stormed the targeted home and discovered a cannabis grow spread across several rooms.
As officers reached the top of the stairs, they spotted smoke and smelled burning. They quickly retreated and called the fire brigade, who soon doused a small blaze in a bedroom.
Investigations revealed the fire was caused by an overturned heat lamp used for the grow.
Detective Chief Inspects the Chaos
“By responding so quickly to this incident, a potentially serious fire was averted – one that could have affected a number of neighbouring properties,” said Detective Chief Inspector Nick Hall of Nottinghamshire Police.
“Cannabis grows pose serious fire risks and we never ignore this illegal activity.
“We believe burglars targeted the property to steal cannabis plants. Officers did well to catch a suspect quickly but our investigation is only just beginning. We’ll leave no stone unturned to find everyone involved.”
