Two men have been arrested after being found hiding in an outbuilding in Normacot, as police continue a car theft investigation involving stolen vehicles travelling in convoy.

The incident began around 11.40pm on Sunday night (March 16), when two suspects reportedly entered a house near Newport Road in Eccleshall, shortly before a grey Volkswagen was stolen from the property.

Vehicles Spotted Travelling in Convoy

Staffordshire Police officers, actively patrolling the area, later spotted the stolen VW travelling in convoy with another car on a dual-carriageway. While the Volkswagen managed to evade capture, the second car was pursued and abandoned by the roadside, prompting a foot chase as two suspects fled the scene.

Police later confirmed that the second vehicle was also stolen, further deepening the criminal probe.

Police Dog Sniffs Out Suspects

As part of the search, police dog PD Maddie was deployed, and tracked the suspects to an outbuilding on Sefton Road, just off the A50 in Normacot, approximately 12 miles from the original theft scene.

Two men — a 21-year-old and a 20-year-old, both from Stoke-on-Trent — were subsequently arrested on suspicion of:

  • Burglary
  • Vehicle theft
  • Drug driving

The suspects are currently being questioned in police custody.

Police Crack Down on Vehicle Crime

A Staffordshire Police spokesperson said:

“We’re working hard to pursue the organised crime groups responsible for vehicle theft across Staffordshire.
Officers are working closely with our 24/7 road crime team and specialist resources to go after those involved and to protect the belongings of the communities we proudly serve.”

Investigations remain ongoing, and officers are urging anyone with information relating to the incident to come forward.
