A quick-thinking passerby rushed to the woman’s aid and held the suspect until officers arrived. The 63-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted rape and is now in custody at an East London police station.

Victim Flees Scene – Police Worried for Her Welfare

The woman ran off when help arrived, and despite extensive efforts, police have been unable to track her down or identify her. Officers believe she wasn’t physically hurt but are deeply concerned about her well-being.

“This woman has probably gone through a very traumatic experience and I fully understand why she ran from the scene,” said Detective Constable Joanne Gaffney from the Central East Command Unit’s Sapphire Team.

“We can offer advice and support from officers trained in sexual offences. I urge her, or anyone who knows her, to make contact. Even if she doesn’t want to speak to us, she should reach out to her doctor or support charities. No one has to face this alone.”

Police Appeal for Information

Detective Gaffney added: “Our priority is this woman’s welfare. If you or anyone you know has experienced something similar, please come forward. Our team is committed to bringing offenders to justice.”
