Car Crime Surge Hits Canterbury Streets

Since April 1, 2018, a small Canterbury neighbourhood has been rocked by 19 vehicle crimes. Thieves smashed 17 car windows, prised open doors twice, and stole items from two vehicles.

Hotspots for Thieves: Beverley Road and Beyond

The crime spree targets include Beverley Road, Pine Tree Avenue, Birchwood Walk, and Hanover Place. Most incidents happen late at night or in the early hours, leaving locals on edge.

Police Step Up Patrols, Urge Caution

“We have increased patrols in the area but would urge vehicle owners to remain vigilant and remove any valuables from their cars or vans before leaving them unattended,” said Sergeant Colette Todd of the Canterbury Community Safety Unit. “We would also encourage residents to report any suspicious activity to us so we can catch whoever is responsible.”
