Police have opened a murder investigation after a man died following a vicious one-punch assault by a bus stop on Lewisham High Street on Saturday, 1st March 2025.

Despite a rapid emergency response, including police officers dashing from Lewisham Police Station with first aid kits and defibrillators, the victim later died in hospital.

Metropolitan Police Major Crime Team Takes Charge
The Metropolitan Police Major Crime Team is leading the investigation into the fatal assault.
“An investigation is underway following an assault on Lewisham High Street. Officers remain at the scene, and one person has been arrested in connection with the incident. We urge anyone with information to come forward,” a Met Police source confirmed.
Ambulance Service Details Emergency Response
“We were called at 8:37 PM to reports of an incident on Lewisham High Street, SE13. We sent ambulance crews, an incident response officer, an advanced paramedic, and members of our joint response unit. A trauma team from London’s Air Ambulance was also dispatched. The man was treated at the scene before being rushed to hospital,” said a London Ambulance Service spokesperson.
Road Closures and Travel Disruptions Hit Lewisham
The southbound section of Lewisham High Street is closed between Lee Bridge and Molesworth Street due to the ongoing investigation. Key bus routes affected include 47, 54, 75, 122, 136, 181, 185, 199, 208, 284, 484, and P4.
