Cop Injured in Intense Armed Standoff in Istead Rise
A police officer was hurt this morning during a dramatic showdown with an armed man in Istead Rise.
Armed Patrols Descend on Worcester Close
Armed police rushed to Worcester Close at 7:45am after reports of a man carrying two bladed weapons near a construction site and park.
Officers confronted the suspect outside a property. The 29-year-old man was acting threateningly, prompting police to discharge a Taser.
Officer Hurt, Suspect Arrested
- One officer suffered a hand cut and was rushed to hospital. Thankfully, his injuries are not serious.
- The suspect, a 29-year-old British national, was arrested on suspicion of assault and possession of an offensive weapon.
- He remains in custody as investigations continue.
Eyewitness: “Not What You Expect on Your Morning Commute”
“When I got there the police had him in handcuffs already. I spoke to one of the officers who said that because an officer was injured the road would be closed for some time. It’s not what you expect to see on the morning commute, though,” said Gary Hickinson, who was walking his daughter to nursery.
Police cordoned off part of Worcester Road while managing the situation.
Kent Police Confirm Arrest
A Kent Police spokesperson said: “A 29-year-old local man was arrested on suspicion of assault and possession of an offensive weapon. He was taken into custody and an investigation is underway.”
