Isle of Wight Police Crack Down on Dangerous Drivers
The Isle of Wight Police are teaming up with mainland road cops to smash the notorious “Fatal Four” driving offences. These deadly habits — drink or drug driving, speeding, not wearing seatbelts, and texting behind the wheel — cause serious and often fatal crashes.
Speed Cameras Snare Hundreds of Speeders
Last month, the Safer Roads Unit blitzed the Island with mobile speed cameras. They hit over 20 spots, clocking up 53 visits and catching 268 drivers breaking the limit.
Checks Target Unlicensed and Uninsured Drivers
Officers also cracked down on drivers flaunting road laws by lacking valid licences, insurance, or tax. Plus, they spotted vehicles falling short on safety standards.
“We are committed to tackling these dangerous behaviours and will keep the public updated on our progress,” said Superintendent Jim Pegler, Isle of Wight’s district commander.
“We urge people to report concerns or crimes. Even if you don’t see an immediate police response, it helps us pinpoint hotspot areas for enforcement and education.”
