Serial Rapist Darrel Rose Locked Up For 17 Years

Darrel Rose, 36, a drifter formerly of New Addington, has been slammed with a hefty 17-year jail term at Croydon Crown Court. The sentence follows a brutal spree of sexual crimes against two women. Rose was convicted on all charges after a three-week trial, with verdicts delivered on 30 May.

Terrifying Crimes Revealed

  • Seven counts of rape – three against victim one, four against victim two
  • Assault by penetration (victim one)
  • Forcing a person into sexual activity without consent (victim one)

The horrific attacks happened between 2010 and 2016 across London boroughs including Sydenham, Lewisham, and Luton.

Five Years of Police Pursuit Brings Justice

Detectives from the Met’s Public Protection Unit worked relentlessly for five years to catch and convict Rose. He was already serving time after a previous rape conviction in February 2018.

During the earlier probe, a second victim came forward after recognising Rose as her attacker. Police also reached out to victim one, who had initially reported the rape but retracted her statement out of fear. Courageously, she worked with officers to reopen the case.

Strong Words from Detective Sergeant Laura Thomas

“Darrel Rose treated both victims in a derogatory and degrading way. He was both emotionally and physically abusive and this sentence reflects the horror he put his victims through. “Both victims have shown great bravery and courage in standing up to Rose and ensuring he is made to answer for his actions. I would like to praise the strength and commitment they have shown throughout this case.”

The women continue to receive support from specialised officers. The Met emphasises that everyone has the right to feel safe in London and urges anyone with information to contact police immediately.
