Police Praise Public as Notting Hill Carnival Runs Smoothly
Thousands of Londoners flocked to the Notting Hill Carnival over the bank holiday weekend, turning out in force for one of the world’s biggest street festivals. Despite some challenges, police hailed the event a major success.
Safe and Spectacular, Says Lead Officer
Commander Dave Musker, in charge of policing the Carnival, said: “Notting Hill Carnival is a highlight for London and especially for in west London communities. The weekend pulls in people from across the Capital and beyond.”
Musker praised the close teamwork between his officers, event organisers, and stewards. “We all worked hard to make it a safe and spectacular event,” he added.
Weapons Seized and Arrests Made
Thanks to strict security measures, including a Section 60 Order and newly introduced screening arches, officers confiscated 36 offensive weapons and made 373 arrests during the weekend — numbers that might still rise.
“The screening arches were a big success, deterring those planning to bring weapons,” Musker explained.
Only One Serious Incident Despite Packed Streets
There was just one stabbing reported on Monday night in Ladbroke Grove, thankfully non-life-threatening. “That was the only incident of this nature throughout the whole weekend,” the commander confirmed.
Despite the mostly smooth event, Musker revealed 30 police officers were injured on duty. “Any assault on police is unacceptable,” he insisted.
Thanks to All Partners and Hard-Working Officers
Musker paid tribute to the thousands of officers who braved challenging weather and long shifts to keep revellers safe. He also thanked support from British Transport Police, City of London Police, city officials, and event stewards.
“Carnival is a celebration of London’s amazing diversity. Sadly, a small minority seek to tarnish this, but we will continue reviewing security to keep it safe and enjoyable for all,” said Commander Musker.
