Massive Road Closures Hit Wickham for Horse Fair!
Hampshire Constabulary has warned motorists and visitors of major road disruptions for the Wickham Horse Fair on Friday, May 20. The heart of the fair, The Square, will be completely closed to traffic from 4.30am until 8pm.
Roads Shut & Parking Chaos
The A334 will be shut between the Blind Lane traffic lights and the A32 roundabout junction. Meanwhile, the nearside lane of the A32 southbound at Hoads Hill, from the A334 junction to the top of the hill, will be turned into a parking zone.
- Horse boxes must park on the east side of the A334, between the north end of The Square and the junction at Blind Lane and 1 Lane.
- Unauthorised vehicles will be towed without hesitation.
Residents & Emergency Access
Residents will have special permits to navigate through closure points, but beware: the road right outside The Square won’t be passable due to crowds and roaming horses.
For unexpected emergencies, dedicated phone lines are in place for residents affected by the closures.
Plan Ahead or Get Stuck!
Superintendent Alison Heydari urges everyone to plan their trips carefully. “This event is steeped in history. We’ve teamed up with local councils to keep the day safe and enjoyable for all,” she said.
“If you’re attending, get familiar with the road closures and parking rules. These measures keep disruption to a minimum.”
High-visibility police officers will be patrolling all day ready to tackle any issues.
