Shock Death at Royal Lancaster Infirmary
Derek Macdonald, 35, died after being restrained by prison officers and police at Royal Lancaster Infirmary. Lancashire Police have closed their investigation with no charges to be brought.
What Really Happened?
On January 25th at 5.13pm, officers rushed to Royal Lancaster Infirmary to assist prison staff guarding Derek Macdonald, who had become unwell and agitated.
Police arrived quickly and helped restrain him. But within minutes, Mr Macdonald’s condition spiralled. By 5.27pm, he stopped breathing and collapsed unconscious. CPR was given, but he was pronounced dead at 6.30pm.
Investigation Ends with No Charges
A prison officer in his 30s was first arrested on suspicion of manslaughter on January 31 but later released under investigation. After a thorough probe, Lancashire Police ruled out any further action.
The Independent Office for Police Conduct also reviewed police involvement and found no fault, closing their inquiry.
“Our thoughts remain with his loved ones. His family have been informed of the latest developments. The matter will now proceed to inquest,” said Lancashire Police.
Tragic Crash in Bolton
In other news, two women aged 57 and 59 were killed after being hit by a VW Polo in Bolton. The 19-year-old driver has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. Investigations are ongoing.
