Hunt On for ‘Council Official’ Burglar Targeting Elderly in Birmingham

Police are on the lookout for Bernard McDonagh, 59, also known as Bernard Lovell, over a spate of distraction burglaries across Birmingham, Sandwell, and Solihull.

Distraction Burglar Poses as Official

McDonagh is wanted for questioning after numerous incidents where elderly women were fooled by a man claiming to be a council or water company worker. The suspect tricks victims by saying he needs to check their taps, then sneaks into their homes under false pretences.

Victims Left Shaken and Injured

In a chilling attack in Erdington, an 88-year-old woman was assaulted during one of these break-ins and is now in hospital in a serious condition.

Public Urged: Don’t Approach, Call 999

Police warn anyone who spots McDonagh not to confront him. Instead, dial 999 immediately. Authorities emphasise the suspect could be dangerous.
