Fake Solar Worker Tries to Scam Coxheath Homeowner

A man claiming to work for a solar panel firm showed up at a home near Heath Road, Coxheath, on the afternoon of Monday 7 March 2022. He said recent storms might have damaged the property and asked to come inside.

Homeowner Smells a Rat and Slams Door

The homeowner grew suspicious and refused entry. To be sure, they contacted their actual solar panel company – who confirmed no one had been sent. Police were called and searched the area but couldn’t find the suspect’s vehicle: a large white van with no signwriting or ladders.

Police Warn of Possible Distraction Burglary

Detective Inspector Richard O’Toole said: “The motives of this man remain unclear, but it’s possible this was an attempted distraction burglary. The intended victim did the right thing refusing entry and contacting the police.”

“We urge anyone else visited by this man to contact us. Relatives and neighbours of vulnerable people should stay alert.”
