Crackdown on Dangerous Drivers in Medway
Kent Police, backed by Essex Police, launched a major road safety blitz in Gillingham on Wednesday, 6 December 2023. The operation, focused on vehicle roadworthiness, swept through Ambley Way hunting down unsafe rides and reckless drivers.
Nine Vehicles Grounded, One Seized
- Vehicle bans and seizures: Nine cars were slapped with prohibitions for being too dangerous to hit the road. Seven more were slapped with strict repair notices to fix faults within ten days. One unlucky uninsured vehicle was seized on the spot.
- Traffic offence crackdowns: Over a dozen drivers faced reports for offences ranging from texting behind the wheel, hauling overweight loads, to breaking HGV driving hour limits.
Police Warn: No Let-Up Over Festive Season
Inspector Dave Crompton of Kent’s Roads Policing Unit said the joint effort with Essex Police and other agencies aims to keep risky drivers off the road. “We targeted those posing a real danger to others,” he said.
“We urge all motorists to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy and legal this festive season. We will be out in force, stopping and arresting anyone caught drunk or on drugs.”
This blitz is part of Kent Police’s ongoing mission to slash accidents and boost road safety across the region. With winter driving conditions getting tougher, drivers are warned to expect continued spot checks and tough penalties ahead.
