Fake NHS Email Scam Alert: Ifield Medical Practice has hit the alarm over a nationwide email con pretending to be from the NHS. The dodgy message urges recipients to update their GP info and install suspicious software. But beware – it’s a trap to steal your personal data or infect your device with malware.
The Scam Email Exposed
The fraudulent email titled “Action Required: GP Register Update” looks official, boasting NHS logos and urgent instructions. It tells you to:
- Click a button saying “I don’t want to change my GP”
- Update your address details
- Download and install e-signature software to confirm your information
This so-called software claims to work on both Windows and Mac, but it could steal your data or sabotage your device. Both Ifield Medical Practice and NHS England confirm this is a total fake.
How To Stay Safe
- Don’t click any links or buttons in the bogus email
- Never download the suggested software
- Delete the email immediately
- If you’ve already clicked or downloaded, report it straight away at Action Fraud
Official NHS Advice
The NHS will never ask you to download third-party software or to update GP details via unsolicited emails. Genuine requests only come from your local surgery or trusted NHS channels like the NHS App. When in doubt, ring your GP directly to check.
“Please just delete the email without opening or you can report it if you wish to,” Ifield Medical Practice warned.
