Dramatic Diver Rescue Operation Underway Off Northumberland Coast
Seahouses Lifeboat crew sprang into action at 11:39am on Sunday, 17 October 2021, after a Mayday call from a dive boat just north of Longstone reported a missing diver.
Double Lifeboat Launch and Air Support
Both Seahouses lifeboats launched immediately, joining a fleet of vessels to scour the waters. Seahouses All 1 Lifeboat took charge as the “On Scene Commander.” Coastguard Rescue Helicopter 199 from Prestwick scrambled to assist, coordinated by the Maritime Coastguard Rescue Coordination Centre at Bridlington.
All Hands on Deck: Local Efforts and Extended Search
- Local coastguard officers and police monitored operations from Seahouses Harbour.
- After extensive searching, Helicopter 199 refuelled locally and was relieved by Helicopter 912 from Hull.
- Numerous charter and dive boats joined the hunt for the missing diver.
- Amble, Berwick, and Craster Lifeboats are now on scene as the search continues into the evening.
Still No Word on Diver’s Identity
The RNLI confirmed they have no information on the diver’s identity at this stage. Further updates will be released when available.
